Golden Retriever Puppy Grooming Tips in the UAE Climate

With their friendly demeanor and beautiful golden coats, Golden Retriever puppies are one of the most loved dog breeds in the world. However, if you have a Golden Retriever puppy living in the UAE, you already know that keeping one of these breeds is a challenging experience when it comes to grooming in the hot, dry climate. Grooming is more than your puppy looking cute; it is about comfort, hygiene, and health, especially in miserable weather conditions. Below are a few tips to help with the grooming process that relate directly to the Golden Retriever puppies in the UAE climate.

1. Brush to Keep Cool

Golden Retrievers have a thick double coat that is designed for much cooler climates. This thick coat means they shed a lot, especially if they are residing in the warm climate of the UAE. Brush your puppy daily; brushing helps minimize the amount of loose hair, prevents matting, and allows for airflow to your puppy’s skin. Regular brushing will help you watch for ticks, fleas, or skin irritation. Using slicker brushes or de-shedding tools will help you get to the undercoat of the Golden Retriever puppy, and be careful, as puppies tend to have more sensitive skin than adult dogs.

2. Paw and Pads Pestering

The hot pavements and hot sand can be tough on your puppy’s paws while they are running around. You should trim the fur between the pads on the feet to prevent dirt from building up, and make sure you check for cracks or burning on the pads themselves. You could also use a paw balm to keep them moist. When you walk them in the summer, it is usually best to walk them earlier in the morning or late at night so they do not injure themselves with burns from super-hot pavement.

3. Ear and Eye Care

Golden Retrievers have floppy ears, which means they are susceptible to ear infections, particularly in warm and humid environments. Gently clean them on each ear with vet-approved cleaning solution, once every 1–2 weeks. For the eyes, simply wipe off any discharge with a soft cloth that has been dampened with warm water; the sand and dust in the area can irritate their eyes.

4. Coat Trimming – Don’t Go Crazy

Although you may want to shave your Golden’s coat to keep them cool while it is very hot, it is not advisable. The double coat of a Golden Retriever is a sort of insulation and provides a layer from hot and a level of protection from sunburn. If you wish, a light trim around the chest, belly, and paws should be enough to keep it tidy and comfortable.

Conclusion

Grooming a Golden Retriever puppy in the hot UAE climate can be an extra effort in terms of heat, hydration, and coat upkeep. But if you remember to groom regularly with brushing and bathing, while also caring for the paws and ears, and considering your puppy’s schedule for walks, you will be able to keep your puppy happy, healthy, and comfortable despite the climate. And also keep in mind that grooming is also an activity to bond with them, as much as your puppy will enjoy the attention you are giving him or her, you too are creating a bond to have a well-groomed golden retriever puppy!
